Mayport is a waterfront community located between Naval Station Mayport and the mouth of the St. Johns River. Despite being home to a large Navy base, Mayport is often described as a cozy, little fishing town. The community is perhaps best known for its many shrimp boats that harvest large, delicious prawns daily as well as the St. Johns River Ferry, which shuttles cars between the river banks. The only road in and out of Mayport is State Road A1A, which keeps the town peacefully quiet for its residents thanks to the lack of through-traffic.
